LMS Team- Nicolas Holguín

Nicolas Bautista Holguín is one of the new interns who started to work with Larsen Motorsports this fall semester. Being born and raised in Peru, Nicolas is not only fluent in English and Spanish, but knows a few words of the native Peruvian language Quechua too. Having traveled some distance from home, Nicolas is currently a senior at Florida Tech who is majoring in Aerospace Engineering.

As a little boy Nicolas wanted to become a doctor until he started playing with planes and decided that he would much rather be working on engines and aircrafts. Once he is done with his undergraduate degree, Nicolas is planning on either going to a graduate school or getting a job in the United States. Ideally, he would love to work on Falcon 9 at SpaceX, however if he were to get in to SpaceX he would be more than happy to fill in any position that they would appoint him.

Being a student at Florida Tech, Nicolas was also exposed to Larsen’s marketing around campus and found their work on jet engines to be appealing. He is impressed by the implementation on jet engines to land vehicles and the technical aspects of jet dragsters. He plans on getting hands-on and work place culture experience, learn more about jet engines, and provide whatever he can for Larsen Motorsports during his internship.

Nicolas is working with Jesse Llanos, formerly highlighted student intern, on restoring funny car molds and funny car supports. Unlike Jesse, Nicolas has previous experience on working with composites. He took composites class and training, and when manufacturing the drone for his senior design project he built the fuselage out of composite materials.

When he has free time from school and his internship Nicolas enjoys fishing, especially when he is back home, and playing video games. He is also doing a follow up on his senior design project with the Ocean Engineering Department. The aim of his senior design project was to build a drone that swims, dives, and flies so now he is working on building the second generation drone that will be better at completing those tasks.

If Nicolas was not at Florida Tech he would be back home studying either Civil or Industrial Engineering. However, being an Aerospace Engineer has always been his first choice so he is happy to be here.
